From the Desk of Director

The Centre of Excellence in Lasers and Optoelectronic Sciences (CELOS) has a place of pride among the institutions within CUSAT. It is a unique and bold attempt supported by the UGC in the context of higher education and research in the frontier areas of science and technology in this country. The five year integrated M.Sc. Degree course which is being conducted by CELOS is the only one of its kind in this country and it is truly an interdisciplinary course combining the salient features of high technology subjects like fiber optics, laser technology, computer science and microelectronics. The course is imaginatively structured in such a way that in addition to the above areas, the student is given a firm foundation in applied mathematics and basic physics. They are also trained to solve practical problems in a real life scenario. I am sure that the students who successfully come out of this course will be well groomed to take up the technological challenges of twenty-first century. They will be a new breed of professionals capable of providing immense creativity in novel realms.
