The commemorate the 118th birth anniversary of Nobel Laureate Sir C.V. Raman, the third edition of SPECTRA, the tech fest of CELOS was organised during 4-7 Nov 2006. The event consisted of Science Quiz for higher secondary and under graduate students, Colloquium competition for undergraduate students, Open House program for visiting schools and colleges.

On 7^th there were two special lectures by Prof. C. Vijayan (Professor, IIT Madras) and Dr. George Thomas (Scientist, RRL, Thiruvananthapuram) on “Recent advancements in Raman Spectroscopy” and “Advancements in Nanotechnology” respectively.

SPECTRA 2006 was a big success with 17 teams reporting for higher secondary quiz, 7 for under graduate quiz and 25 entries coming for the colloquium competition.

The Golden Prize for under graduate quiz went to Vimala College, Thrissur with U.C. College, Aluva picking up the Silver Prize whereas the Platinum Prize for individual science quizzing was won by Dhanya Johnson of Vimala College, Thrissur.

In the higher secondary quiz category the top prize went to Rajagiri Public School who were followed up by Bhavans Vidyamandir, Girinagar.

The prize for the colloquium was again won by Dhanya Johnson of Vimala College, Thrissur.

The Open House Program was the main attraction of the tech-fest with 306 students from 10 different schools visiting the labs and getting themselves acquainted with the various phenomena of light. More than 30 different experiments were set up to give these school students a basic insight into Photonics.
